2004 f150 fx4 engine
I have the 5.4 new body style engine in my ford and from what I'm told the cam phasers and oil pump are going out which is common in these motors and I was wounding what route I should take...ill be doing the work myself...i was told to just get a new motor but I was hoping maybe I could just get the cam phasers and oil pump....so I guess my question is will the motor be fine with just the cheaper fix or is a new motor the only way to solve the issue

Also a 2004 FX4 owner
The cam phasers can be an issue with these. I think I am in the same boat with my 2004 FX4. I am not aware of oil pump problems. There are some issues with the cam tensioners, which are powered by oil pressure too.
Some others with more experience in these matters should be able to guide you. Check youtube for several videos on how to change out the phasers.

i Have a 2004 FX4 with the 5.4 3v engine with 107k mi. My truck its now in the shop for a new timming components. My mechanic told me my only option is OEM Motorcraft parts, doroman, and other genetic brands will not work on these engines, I replace the oil pump too, because Triton 5.4s engine components works with an oil presure. I ask him about the Cam Phaser lock kit, He told me he installed many of them and reprogram the ECU for thath kit, but this kit will not work grat in higway when you want to pass somebody, or in a uphills, and he unistall almost all of the kits.
He give me one great advise, we must use only motorcraft oil filter every oil change, becasue the oem ones have an internal valvule that clse whe you shut dow the engine, keeping some oil inthe timing parts and in the heads, the other brands dont have that valvule.
So, i will recomend to use only MOTORCRAFT parts.
