Question Yet again another 97 xl 4x4 4.6 - 2003 5.4 engine swap ecu question

i have researched this topic emensly before going out and getting my engine, a little history up to date. I bought my 97 xl 4x4 for 2,800.00 bucks canadian. Which i think after convertion works out to 200 us lol, anyways there were some minor issues with the truck, very minor. i have done alot of mods and upgrades to it , but have always noticed the 4.6 burned alot of oil, poor rings. it had 250,000 km on the dash when i got it , sitting around 259,000 now. Since i started putting in 15w 40 diesel oil it burns and blow byes alot less. Non the less i purchased a 2003 5.4 triton with only 38,000 km on it from an accredited engine supply company for only 900.00 canadian, came as a fully dressed cut out engine. My question is this

i know i need a new ecu to tune and was going to buy one from a wreckers.

do i buy a ecu out of a 97 5.4 triton equiped truck as mine is a 97 only with the 4.6
or
do i buy an ecu out of the 2003 5.4 triton equiped truck?

any suggestions in regards to the ecu aspect of it , or any other parts i should snag out of the said loaner vehicle would be greatly appreciated

will be taking pictures of before and after with the mods and engines soon

thanks in advance for all the help

I believe you will need the 5.43v puter, harness, and trans harness.....throttle by wire and variable cam timing are a couple of issues that come to mind.

great thank you muchly, i got the hollester number (300-9354) for my 2003 5.4 used engine , but can't seem to find a vin number on it to order a specific ecu through autosourceECU web page thats been the big pain so far , obviously no matter if we get it all bolted in right and the wires where they need to be, with out the propper brain it just won't do anything
