Default What causes that big of a loss???

Ok i have a question might be dumb but i just want to know. Ok they say that the 5.4 puts out 300 hp but all of the dynos i've read say that by the time it hits the rear wheel it's less than 200 like 178 stock i think it was something like that. What causes this and is there something you can do to get some of those hp's back to the rear wheel? Gears maybe?

If you are running a 4x4 you are losing power at the transfer case, the large tranny, heavy driveshaft, huge differential and then you are putting that power down through some large (At least 32") tires. Trucks lose a lot more power before it hits the ground. And yes, gears would offset this problem but you would then be looking at higher highway rpm's along with decreased fuel economy unless your driving takes place mainly in the city, where you might see an improvement due to easier engine load.

The 5.4 3V engine (in 2WD) typically shows 240 HP on the rear wheels. A loss of 60HP through the drive train. This is normal for our trucks - GM and Dodge and Toyota are no different.

well from what i have been told the average f150 makes between 212-220 RWHP. real world horse power, so the roush blower kit i have says it offers 145 hp so you take there (300) plus the 145 you have 445 at the motor, after i get on the dyno i will tell you what i really put down.

I've read over the years that these trucks lose about 60Hp through the drivetrain.

The Hypertech factory HP on the attached Dyno pull shows 251Hp for the 5.4L 3V...
