Default Unsure of oil type in crankcase

Bought used '04 5.4l 3v 4x4 SCREW with 47,000 miles on it. Oil is clean but unsure whether it is regular or synthetic. Is there any way to tell the difference if I needed to add some prior to next change?

Default No Worries, Mate:

There is no way to tell synthetic from natural stock oil. The types are compatible so just add a good brand of the proper grade and change over to full synthetic at the next oil change.
