Default Trying to remove VCT solenoid through valve cover

Hello, I am stuck trying to remove solenoid through passenger valve cover. The hole is too small for me to wiggle the solenoid through because the small metal flange is getting hung up on seal seat. Any suggestions?

I guess I could take off the valve cover. How hard is that to do? Thanks,

Dont take the valve cover off. Just make sure the seal came completely out and no scraps are left in there. I doubt there is, but it shouldn't hang up at all.

Default Cannot get bolt past flange

I just cannot seem to wiggle the head of the bolt past the seal flange to remove the solenoid.

I finally got the darn solenoid out. The upper screen was broken, possibly from my wiggling the solenoid around, so it may have been hanging up on the lip. Let's hope it runs well now.
I did notice that the newer solenoid has a smaller hole in the bottom. I have not changed the other side so I guess it will need to be done soon.

What year model truck do you have and did you have to remove the valve cover to get the VCT out?
