Straight Headers.
Hey ya'll i have a built 302 its a complete roller motor and i was thinking about some exhaust ideas. i live in pike county ga and we dont have emmisions and i live in the middle of nowhere so i aint worried about anybody gettin mad because its to loud so i can pretty much go all out. im currently running just straight BBK shorty headers with about 3 feet of 2 1/2 inch pipe running out. its really really loud and it sounds amazing but i need to get the exhaust done so i can atleast have a little back pressure on my valves before the cold weather rolls around again. the first question i have is the longer the pipe the louder? or the shorter the pipe the louder? im gonna stick with 2 1/2 inch pipe. i was thinking about running it straight from the headers all the way to a x pipe and running the pipe over the frame and ending it right infront of the rear tires. any ideas and answers would be greatly appreciated

Back pressure=myth. Although running basically open headers is bad for our engine. And id hate to hear the drone in the cab. My personal opinion, that poppy, raspy, race car straight pipe sounds like crap. I have straights with 4x12 tips out the back and it has a nice low rumble. I suggest forgetting the x pipe and 2.5" pipe. Join the headers together in 3 or 4" pipe, take it all the way to the rear and exit with dual tips in front of the tire. Or, to get rid of drone, y it before the axle, and exit cowboy out the back.
