I've a 2011 f150 XLT crewcab 3.5 EB with the trailering package.


Occasionally I've noticed a thump/clunk emanating from my truck while its downshifting on a coast at low speeds....
Like while on a down ramp in a garage...
Or slowing down in traffic...

It never happens while towing,...

And I've towed a jet ski ,...boat and a camper....

It's inconsistent...I E I cannot replicate it on demand...

I've discussed it with my dealer and they tell me it there was a tranny issue they'd be able to tell due to all the tech in the vehicle...

They say I've adaptive tranny and it learns the driving habits and shifts per those habits....

There are no other symptoms/indicators indicators that something's wrong....
Other than a very disconcerting Thump/clunk....

My wife borrowed my truck for a project she was working on and it happened with too....

Any thoughts ideas I can take to my dealer?

One other thing,...it only seems to happen when I'm first driving the truck...
IE it doesn't happen if I've been driving for more than 5 mins...

I've read that folks think it's due to lack of lubrication on the slip yoke but that is only what I have read. They took their trucks in and had ford lube it up and worked great temporarily but always seemed to come back. Mine does the same and I have a 2011. Happens usually a couple times a week easily. Not worried about it but some ppl wonder what it is when they ride with me. Long as it doesn't become super severe seems somewhat normal on these. 😬
