Default Ticking noise

I have a 2004 F-150 with a ticking issue. It has been doing it for about a year. At start up it ticks alot and calms down after afew seconds and runs good. So this truck has alot of miles on this motor (270K) would it be worth my while to put new lifters in it to calm that down?. I use the magnetic oil 5/20w. Should I be using any additives? any ideas?

Ticking lifters normally won't just stop after a few seconds. Generally a tick that's high at startup and then calms down is an exhaust leak somewhere, usually the manifolds / manifold gaskets for that model year. Also check for loose spark plugs. What engine does this truck have?

And yes I have tightened the spark plugs down but that still ticks if they aren't tight....

Ok, I'll try seeing if I can find the exhaust leak....

Thanks
