Default thermostat....

ok so I have a 2004 F-150 v8 and for a couple of wks when i turn the truck on sometimes the gages just stay down and kinda shake for like 10sec and then move up like they're supposed to. Then 3 days ago the ck engine light came on. I ran a diagnostic on it and it said its bc of the thermostat or the sensor. Idk where to locate the thermostat to see if thats the problem. Does anyone know where to look?
