Default Is there an alternative to replacing the cylinder head temperature sensor?

I posted this int he general discussion area, but thought I would try my luck here as well. I have to replace the CHT sensor (the dealer confirmed) unless someone has an alternate replacement. I understand that the sensor really sits in a dead hole and is only detecting the temp of the cylinder head itself. If this is correct, it seems to me that there should be an alternate to removing the intake manifold and all that involves by using another more accessible location as a bolt on replacment. I can do the job if there is no other way, I just dont want to and the dealer is asking for my first born if they do it. The vehicle is a 2004 5.4L 2WD Supercab.

I'm not sure that moving a sensor is a right thing to do. It's readings are directly related with it's position, so if you move it to another place it might confuse ECU.
