I have the 5.4 liter in my 1997 F 150 and Expedition. I have been told I should keep using the 5w30 oil. Today when I got my oil changed they asked if it was still under warranty ? I said no and then wanted to know why I was still using that oil. Should I being using some other weight ? I have 117,000 miles on my F150 and 170,000 miles on my Expedition. No problems yet. Knock on wood. Should I change and why ?

weight should be 5-20 but if you've been using 5-30 then you might as well stay with it.
motorcraft 5-20, if something happens to your engine, say you get a knock, and u take it in for warranty work and u have a sticker in the window from mr.tire and a valvoline oil filter they can tell you to pound sand. ford makes the motors and its what they recommend. if u have a problem with the dealer, wal-mart has the same stuff. and its every 3k.
I use valvoline right now but I think I am going to switch to a synthetic. This is my first new truck and I would like it to last as long as possible. I dont think you can beat a synthetic as far as viscosity and lubrication go.
Hey, BTW... for those of you who change your own oil out there. Is the filter a pain in the *** to get to on the '04 F150s with the 4.6? It looks like it may be a bear!
I saw a filter relocation kit in JC Whitney for like $40 that will move it back and out of the way. Think it would be a good investment?
PS: Fram filters are garbage! Theyre so bad that Cummins reccomends not using a Fram oil filter because in cold weather the high initial oil pressure has actually blown apart the canister and ruined some engines. My father bought a brand new '07 Dodge 1 ton with a cummins turbo diesel and it actually violates the warranty if you use a Fram filter on it. Thats why i always use Motorcraft.
PSS: The military uses Fram filters also... why? Because they buy from the lowest bidder... THEYRE CHEAP! I've seen a Fram filter on a huge 2 cycle Detroit diesel blown to smithereens. After seeing that... ill never use fram again.
been running the castrol 5w20, but last week bought some mobil 5w20 synthetic. i'm gonna change it this week, will see what happens. 60000 km.on truck.
