Default switching from regular to premium

I recently bought an Edge chip for my 2004 f150 fx4. It requires premium gasoline for the performace setting. Would it be alright to switch from reg. gas to prem. gas without damaging my engine?

Yes it is OK. My dad ran regular in the truck that I have for six years and when I started driving it I started putting premeum in it to held the engine knocking.

Not a big expert on fuels, chips, and programming mods - but suggest that running premium in a motor not setup to take advantage of the higher octane can lead to carbon build-up over time and the related operating and performance issues caused by the build-up.

Your mod appears to take advantage of the higher octane to the point of actually requiring its use.

Can't say that any harm towards the engine 'damage' end of the spectrum would occur by going from regular to premium.

It says it's an edge programmer. It's the one that mounts on your dash...the Evolution.

Yea it advances the timing so premimum fuel is required.

i dont think alot of people are aware that a higher octane fuel burns longer than a lower octane fuel.. thus the carbon build up when not tuned for it. Just like trying to run premium in a japanese motorcycle... from the old days... it just didnt work..lol
