Strange noise from 04 5.4l
Hello all, just bought my first 150 and love it.
how ever i have a question. i bought this truck right before it got cold and everything ran great. Now that it is cold it is making a strange engine noise. This noise happens at any speed or even if the truck is just sitting there idling. Some times i think there is a pattern after 60m/h but then it will do it at 35m/h. The best way i can discribe the noise is think of what happens when someone gets to close to a microphone, it makes a fast highpitched whistle. This is more of a slower lower pitch tone. it can last anywhere from 5 secs to 3 minutes.
the truck is stock except for k&n air filter.
any help would be greatly appreciated and this is a great site by the way.

f150nuffsaid,
I had the same issue with an 05 King Ranch. I had a K&N cold air intake when I bought her. I dislike K&N air filters. My take on them is if your letting more airflow in, more **** is going to get in too! Anyhow, I went by a local junkyard and picked up a stock air intake tube and air cleaner box for about $70. Cleaned it up and installed it with a regular air filter and the whistle is GONE GONE!
The whistle I had was drivers side, high pitched, and happened whether it was cold, hot, raining, etc. Happened from about 1500-2000 rpm. It was definitely the K&N CAI!
