starter problems 1999 4.2
truck will start if I turn the key as fast as i can if key is turned on and I do not try to start the truck does not do any thing I have to turn key off and do it again. The starter will engage for 2 to 3 seconds and stop jumped the starter solenoid and starter works fine.Since it does turn over with key I assume the neutral switch is OK.This truck has 250,000 miles never borke down till this started.
any one else had this problem or is there a ford mechanic
out there who can help.
thanks for any help 60mike

First thoughts are something with the ignition switch - either an adjustment issue or a wear issue.
Not being all that familiar with what's been done on newer trucks - the switch I'm thinking about is the block assembly near the bottom of the steering column, about where the brake pedal is.
Does the truck start, or just roll over, when you jumper the starter solenoid?
