Default is this piston slap? video included

Can't seem to pinpoint this noise the motor has 154k and it does it until the motor gets warm. Seems to last about a minute and a half as you can see in the video. Once warm its very quiet! And insight is greatly appreciated

Hard to say from an online video, but that sounded more like a weak lifter or possibly the wrong weight motor oil being used. Piston slap stays the same no matter what engine temp is.

If you are using oil that is NOT the recommended weight, can cause engine noise.

I really appreciate your reply. It does it for about 1 minute 20 sounds when the truck has been sitting for 12 hours or longer.

With the miles you have on it, it's not surprising to hear a little noise on cold start up. Really hard to say but it don't sound very serious. If I had to guess I'd say the cam followers (lifters) were bleeding down. Run it another 50,000 miles then throw a crate engine in it.

Yikes. Are the cam followers a big deal? Expensive to replace?

Dunno how much but I wouldn't spend any amount of $$ on an engine with that many miles on it other than regular maintenance.

You open an engine that old/used your asking for trouble unless you plan to overhaul it.

Oh its got 154,000km. Not miles! Sorry should have specified! I can't seem to figure out why it only does it for a minute or two and not all the time

Even at 96k miles even if's been well maintained it's still a risk to go into it. I'd let it ride but that's just my opinion.

Put some Rev-X in it at the next oil change. If its problem lifters at cold start up it may help cure it.
