P1406, p1120, & p0122
My service engine light came on and I decided to invest in a code reader scanner (actron OBDII CP9175) It gave me P1406 - Diff Press EGR Downstream Hose Off or Plugged. I opened my hood to find that A rat got into my engine and chewed up what I believe were the hoses to the EGR valve and pooped and peed all over the engine. I replaced the hoses and purchased some engine cleaner. I sprayed the cleaner all over the engine and then washed it off. I did this two times and it still dind't get the urine smell out. After that I hooked up the scanner to clear the code but ended up getting two new codes; P1120- Thott Pos sensor "A" Out of Range Low, and P0122 - TPS/Pedal Position sensor "A" circuit low input. I made sure the engine was dry and unplugged the Thrott Pos sensor and cleaned out the conectors with a Q-tip. I plugged them back on and drove the truck to see how it ran. I still haven't cleared the trouble codes because I don't think I fixed the problems. My truck now feels like it looses power while accelerating and decelerting. I am at best a beginner mechanic and would appreciate some help with these problems. The scanner gives me the code definitions but no instruction on how to fix them. I'm not sure if I should clear the codes even though I still have the problems. Thanks.

I cleared the codes and ran my truck.... it seems that I just went from the frying pan and into the fire! The P1406 cleared but I still have the original P0122 and P1120 with two new codes to add; P0123 - TPS/Pedal position sensor "A" circuit high input, and P1121 - Manuf. Cont. fuel air metering.

Go back to the post by torkum about the wire harness. Inspect all of the harness for chewing. If the little beast was in there chewing rubber and pissing all over the place, wire insulation is tasty also to thoes critters. Dealt alot with this in the golf industry.

I didn't remove the wire harness because I don't think I would be able to put it back along with anything else I might need to remove to get it off. I do value everyones help/advise. I can't afford to take apart my engine and then have to pay someone to put it back to gether for me. One other issue is that I didn't get the Thrott. Pos. sensor trouble codes and my truck wasn't stalling/jerking until after I washed the engine. When I just had the P1406 code my truck was running fine. After replacing the chewed up hoses that code is gone and now I have the four other codes from washing the engine. If there is no other way around this I will take out the wire harness and go over it inch by inch.

fluke makes some nice voltmeters but not cheap, check out your local parts store they usally have some decent ones. Also im not a big fan of the dealer but might wanna take it there and have them do a quick look,
