Default Noisy engine question

Picked up a 01 F150 with the 4.6 recently. I didn't hear any noise when i got it but it has since started making some noise(sounds kinda like a diesel). Also from about 1000-1300 rpm's i am getting a clacking sound now. I got a engine stestiscope and it seems to be coming from the passenger's side head area. I'm thinking I have a broke timing chain tensioner and or a bad valve lash adjuster or adjusters. One question I have is when I pull off the oil filler cap I can see down through it and I see the camshaft and 1 lobe on it. From what I can see the lobe has a film of oil on it but with the engine running looking down in there I was expecting to see lots of oil splashing around or flowing around but I didnt. Is this normal? I have seen some videos of engines running with the valve covers off and no oil splashing around so im thinking that is normal. one other question i have is im planning on pulling my valve cover off to check the lash adjusters and stuff under there. when I have the valve cover off should I be able to see down through there into the timing chain area and see if i do indeed have a bad timing chain tensioner?

I've never seen oil "splashing around" but I can tell it's on the chains. You should see some fling from the lash adjusters, though. If not, I'd think you need to replace them, and that goes hand in hand with the sound you were hearing. Might not be a bad start. They aren't TOO expensive... and you can do it yourself

Update!

I had driven it another 4-5 days only driven 8 miles a day then I got the nerve up to pull the valve cover off and had a couple collapsed lash adjusters so I changed them all out put it all back together and was expecting it to be quiet as a mouse. NOPE! sounded the same. when I had the cover off I tried looking at the timing guides etc.. but couldnt really see much down in there. so I drove it a couple more days then yesterday I took the plunge and started the task of pulling the timing cover and just got it off a couple hours ago and have hopefully found my problem.

Just got done ordering my new parts so hopefully in a few days ill get it back together and then it will be nice and quiet.

Another ? I got it all put back together today and it nice and quiet!!!! BUT... now under load its running rough. I checked behind myself and looks like all is good(only have not checked the egr). Im thinking I might have a bad COP? It runs smooth in park ideling or reving it up. Put it in gear and you can barely feel it running rough. when you start to accelerate you feel it jerking. Im not getting any codes to help me identify the problem yet. at idle I did pull all but 1 injector connector(1 at a time) and could feel it start to run rough so i know at idle the COP's are working. Would pulling loose 1 coil or injector at a time then driving with that 1 loose and if its even rougher that one should be ok but if i pull 1 and it feels the same that could be my bad COP?

This is from another site...

That's a typical coil low grade misfire. A characteristic after KAM Clear/ battery reconnection.

I did have the battery loose for 5 days but would that cause a COP to go bad?

Cops, plugs, cats. That's what I'd check.
