Default New here. need transmission help.

I have an '03 Lariat FX4 and boy is this baby a beauty but i have been having some troubles lately and im not sure if its a transmission problem or a problem with the clutch. Its an automatic and it seems to reach a peak while im accelerating and so i have to push the pedal hard in which you feel the grear change, then a sudden jerk, and then the continued acceleration. If anyone can help to tell me what the problem is .

If its an automatic, it doesnt have a clutch. Torque converter is what your are thinking of. Expended transmission fluid can make for hard shifts. Check your transmission fluid level, for being dirty, (should be bright red), and see if it smells burnt. Should almost have a sweet smell. But, it would not hurt to have it changed anyway.
