ya i had mine done a couple months ago....its like night and day, BUT i recomond you do it under warranty, if ur trucck is, only because theres 2 in your truck and the price of one is 300 bucks, and that not including labor, if i remeber correctly it took them 2 days to do mine

I had my cam phasers replaced in my 05 about a year and a half ago when i first bought the truck and its already doing it agian but i havent lost any power and everything i'm reading about it is saying that it wont hurt it. I got the bill afterwards and it was over $1800 glad i didnt have to pay it. But i have also heard that the injectors on the 5.4 are really loud too.

My 05' has that same noise. I was leaning toward the exaust manifold being warped or the gasket gone bad. It only sounds that way on the right side of the truck. Taking it in this week to be checked out.

My '04 has always had the tick. I found a TSB online that says if you bring the RPM up to 1200 and the ticking goes away, then it's the cam phasers for sure.

I have an 04 screw 5.4, and mine makes the same sound you are describing. I can only really hear it when it idles though. I hope this is typical to simialr models and I won't have to worry about fixing anything. My buddy just bought an 05 5.4 about a week ago, i'll have to check his to see if he has the same sound.

Default Cam Phazers

Its the cam phazers! Ive been told its normal in the 04 (i have one it does the same thing) and it will not damage the engine, but I have also heard it can ruin your valve train. I'm getting mine fixed with the extended warranty. The truck has 98500 miles on it. Anyone want to change my spark plugs????

Default need some advice

My 04 5.4 has the same problem. Took it in to the dealership and they said its normal for that engine to have a tick, it's kinda annoying though. Wondering if anybody can help me i recsently smashed up my truck but the engine and tranny are ok. theres a 01 4.6 with alot of kms for good price just wanna know if the 04 5.4 will mount in the 01 4.6 and what has to be done to swap. dont wanna sell the engine caus it has low kms would rather just swap it depending on how exspensive it going to be and if all possible.

My bosses 06 5.4, and his 04 5.4 and my 05 5.4, and 06 f350 v10 all do it the same. His 06 right from factory did it. I've just gotten used to it being a ford thing.
