I had the same problem on my 2001 5.4 at about 80k...it was bad coil packs.

Good luck!!

Default wont idle

2005 f150 5.4 triton
I replaced both heads, along with new cam phaser's, timing chain's and new cam phaser solenoid's
It will start ( cold ) right up and run fine at 700 rpm's
It will run great going down hwy. 70 - 90 mph
When you slow down and get off the hwy. and come to a stop it wont idle
The rpm's drop to 400 - 500 and it starts to knock and miss bad, it will also kill.
It will start right up and run great as long as you give it gas and keep it above 700 rpm's )
Its has all new spark plugs and coil packs ( all 8 )
Has small ex. leak on the pass. side when you start it cold, Goes away when it warms up.
It also has a small miss when cold (at idle )
Please Help I'am out of money.

With the truck running and missing, unhook each injector or cop one at a time to see which cylinder is causing the problem. The miss won't change much when you disconnect the bad cylinder.

If you find an offending cylinder, swap coils, plug and injectors around with another cylinder to see what the problem follows. If it stays on that cylinder, do a compression test on the engine - might have a bad valve, piston, etc...

If none of the cylinders affects the miss, it's probably not a miss. An intake leak that bypasses the maf can cause poor idle and stall. Ensure your intake is tight and leak-free.
