Default Low oil pressure light

Im new to the forum today and this is my first post. My 2001 f-150 has 154,000 miles and when cold i get a low oil pressure light and no gauge indication. Good thing is no clatter from under the hood.Ive been letting her idle till the gauge comes up.Is this common? sending unit?? i hope, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Put a manual gauge on it and see what the pressure really is.

You need to put a manuel gauge on and see what the oil pressure reads,( as NGM stated) that way you bypass the sending unit & the trucks gauge. It might just be the sending unit, but the manuel gauge will tell you.
