Default Wierd problem with my 97 4.6 HELP!!

I have a 1997 f-150 4.6L, the truck starts fine, idles for maybe 3 seconds, goes up about 200 RPM's right before it dies than literally just shuts off. I checked fuel pressure today, it was 40 all the way, never dropped. I am stumped on this problem, please help someone. The truck ran fine, I sat it for 3 weeks and this is what happens now when I start it up.

I believe 40 PSI is too low. I have a 96 and it says 50-60 with the engine running I think. I know the 97's are different, so your specs could be lower. Is it throwing any codes? Check for them even if the CEL isn't on. If it isn't on, I would say fuel problem. The pressure could be good, but the flow could be bad. It's somewhere to start anyway.

  1. Connect the scan tool and turn the ignition key ON but do not start the engine.
  2. Following the scan tool manufacturer's instructions, enter the output test mode and run the fuel pump to obtain the maximum fuel pressure.
  3. The fuel pressure should be between 30-45 psi (210-310 kPa).
40 PSI looks to be good. I have no idea how the scan tool would affect it though...
