Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of a big block swap. I have owned a number of 460s and a 429 in the last few years, definitely worth it and going to involve less parts to switch over to one of these then over to a Windsor just due to the trans and the rest of the driveline. There were many Ford trucks and vans that came with the 385 series engines so finding mounts should not be a problem. But.... to just stay cheap, you can build the 351M motors fairly cheap now. 400 cranks are fairly easy to find too.

I Voted For Bill and Opus
They did a 460 rebuild on Horsepower. First they did a budget rebuild and got around 400 hp, and later they went all the way and got 600 hp. I think you can view these shows on the Power Block website.

How bout building on that 351m or 400 block? They're good motors and the only reason why they do so poorly on gas is the emission restriction crap they put on during the 70s/80s. Those motors have the same potential as a Windsor and what do you think was the base for those Modified motors? They're based on the Windsor.

This write up explains the myths about these motors and give you an idea of what you can do. You'll spend way more money swapping a motor than working with what you got now.
