Well ford just might get lucky as since they didnt take any bailout money,their not under fu ckbama's rules.I know gm will at some point phase out their deasels in the 2500's and just keep them for the 3500's as per fu ckbama's rules and regulations.Now thoe will allen mulany fall in line with the diesels rules,i think he just might as everyone knows he isa demacrat and gave money to fu ckbama for his campain......

I would def by the f-150 diesel if it ever does come out,thats for sure

Default Brit Diesels are Clean, Clean, Clean:

....was over in London in '04 on the hottest day in early June. The vast majority of vehicles in that venerable city are diesel-powered. My wife, who has an extreme psychosomatic sensitivity to diesel smell, was not bothered at all. I couldn't detect any noxious diesel odor either, nor did I see any vehicle making smoke, even the big lorries and buses.

My son-in-law's dad in Preston, Lanc., has a 1300cc turbodiesel Ford Festiva, a nice little 4-meter bucket that gets 18.5 miles/litre, about 70 miles to the US gallon, and has a very good turn of performance to boot. There is no detectable diesel odor from that car as well.

But then, the Brits are interested in going as far as possible on as little fuel as possible due to the rather high cost of petrol over there; consequently, the power plants are set up for maximum efficiency with emissions as a secondary, and apparently minor, consideration.

Diesel power should be kept to those who need it. Not those little buttholes who want to brag about it. Those who knew about diesel before they knew what excess black smoke was is how it should stay..
Im sick of these ******* kids who think they are going to have fast trucks by having diesels. If your girl friend is that fat and you need a diesel i feel for you.
If not stay away

dude there not even talking about diesels for performance. they want it for the better mpgs. i would gladly take a diesel over my gas engine any day. better gas mileage and like $.75 cheaper a gallon than gas. who wouldnt want that? all this bull about worse emmisions is ridiculous. look at all these new diesel engines that are putting out half the emissions of a similar gas engine.

per Automotive News (July 27 '09)

With the apparent demise of the f-100, Engineers will put greater emphasis on reducing the f150's weight and improving fuel efficency. Next year, the f150 will add a 3.5 liter v-6 with ecoboost turbocharging and direct injection. The pickup could also get a new 5.0 liter v8. A turbocharged 4 cylinder is possible for the f150, although the timing is unknown. The f150 will forgo a major redesign or re-engineering until the middle of the next decade.

side note: ford is expected to finally pull the plug on the ranger at the end of 2011., the Explorer sport trac is expected to be discontinued in 2010.

Yeah, we all know that diesels don't make power, are dirty and only marginally economical compared to a gasoline engine...right?

Ford recently reported work on an experimental diesel utilising insulated-combustion-chambers. The prototype, a large V8, ran without a water jacket and was developing power at 70% efficiency. The EPA apparently has censored the project because I can't find the reference to the research anymore.

I bet a diesel F150 with a V6 would get close to 35 MPG. Whats up with thejohn2524? Is he bashing diesels or people who drive them? Oh and Diesel trucks kick a** when it come sto performance.

Default Diesels Can and Do Go:

Yeah, that Cummins B5.9 can be a real powerhouse. Gale Banks built a B5.9 for 700hp, installed it in a Dakota PU and ran the Lakes at 220mph. A street version of a similar setup is good for only 155mph....and makes better than 20 to the gallon.

Had a friend a couple of years ago who set up an '85 Chev C10 Silverado 6.2L Chev/Allison diesel with twin turbos (35psi boost), an inline injection pump from a 9L Navistar (to get enough fuel), a Turbo 400 with trans-brake and a 3.56:1 Ford 9 inch axle. The rig ran 11 flat at 115mph in the quarter with shifts coming at 4500-5100rpm. Estimated torque from the engine was about 850lb/ft.
He lost the engine one day when, at about 100 feet, the rear axle let go and the engine went to the moon. Of course everything stopped. When the engine was torn down the entire bottom end, crank, pistons, rods, bearings were in perfect shape. Most of the pushrods were bent and the pistons had valve-head marks carved into them. The tach broke and the needle had jammed at 8200rpm.....that valve train was NOT designed to run at 8200rpm!!

A twin-turbo set up in an '87 6.5L diesel Chev K20 4X4 (6700 lbs.) would turn 0-60 in 8.9 seconds...not shabby at all.
