Engine Vibrates and Looses Power

Engine Vibrates and Looses Power
I've got a 2005 F150 4x4 with the 5.4 V8. The engine will begin to shudder/vibrate and then looses power. The check engine light begins to flash. This typically happens when running at a constant speed between 65 and 70 mph and is sporatic. Then the event just stops, like you flick a switch. The events leave no codes and the local Ford agency can't get the truck to repeat the event when they test drive it with the black box hooked up.
They (Ford) have no idea what the problem is.
Has anyone expirienced this?
What was the problem?
Thanks,
Gerry

It sounds like your misfiring. My 02 did that to me a few times and randomly would correct itself and no codes would show up. Id check your coil packs they possibly got moisture in them.

Thanks Wolv450. I used to road race GT-1 cars and occasionally we would ge a cross wire on the plug wires when we changed an engine. The symptoms remind of that except or course that the crosswire didn't disaappear.
I'll look into it.

Just went through the same thing, it starts off small, and then gets worse. It will eventually throw a service engine soon code if its misfiring bad enough. Once it does, you will have a pretty good idea what it is. I bet you have a bad plug or ignition coil (COP), but until it codes, it will be hard to know for sure.

This sounds like how mine acted (but at a slower speed) when I had an injector failing. If it's throwing a SES light and the dealer can't figure it out you need to find another dealer, they should be able to diagnose it.

In the (03) manual it says there is a failsafe mode whereby the engine shuts down opposing cylinders to aid cooling when overheating is sensed. It remains (barely) driveable at much reduced power. It will shutdown completely if it doesn't cool down. Maybe you've got a faulty thermostat or something that is triggering this default mode.

I apologize in advance! I am paranoid about this.... just me sorry!!...it is loses not looses...spelled wrong all over the internet, I'm afraid it will become the official spelling someday.
