Default engine tapping

Hello all! I have a 2008 F-150 5.4l FX4 (3 weeks old, 300 miles). I recently started hearing a tapping noise coming from the engine. I brought it to the dealer and they said it is the fuel injectors. They confirmed that it is louder than normal. Does anyone have this problem? Or any ideas?

a knock knock sound on a 300 mile engine is usually a badly assembled bottom end, that is if it started out from the get go if however is started later on it could be a crap oil pump installation that has lunched out the bottom end. The bottom line is take it back and make them pull it and redo it. If they give you crap about it let us know the name an location of this shop we here can give them a million dollars worth of bad advertising.

The tapping sounds like its coming from the top of the engine. It kinda sounds like a real quiet diesel engine. They told me that they wouldn't mind looking deeper into the situation, but if they replaced the fuel injectors they don't know if the warranty would cover it since they are not techically defective. All i know is that i didn't hear the tapping when i bought it and now i can hear it, its not loud but its there.

If it is the top end that sounds like one of the rockers is out of adjustment. Which is a setup thing. Good luck sounds like your re-builder will stand behind their work.

Let me make sure I am reading this correctly.

Brand new truck, three weeks old, no real miles,
has noisy motor and dealer says it might not be covered
by warranty.

My suggestion: Take it back and leave it there until it is
made right and at no cost to you. Take no crap.

If anyone has not read the million other plus threads on the "tapping or knocking" sound coming from there 5.4 triton, IT IS PERFECTLY NORMAL! I was even browsing through my user manual the other day and it even said a sentence regarding the knocking tapping noise is a normal thing, just as long as it isn't to loud, mine has a little tick to the motor at warm idle

Does a BRAND NEW one make that tapping noise? If not then it is not normal. I think that is a BS attitute Ford has taken. Noisy injectors cannot be heard with the hood down.. GM has some of the loudes injectors and when the hood is closed you cant hear them. Our race 'Stang has huge injectors and you cant hear them.. Make the dealership fix it.

I have an appointment on Friday with the dealer where the shop manager is going to look at it and make a decision on what to do. I guess he has to figure out whether the warrenty will cover it. If they say i have to pay for it im gonna call ford directly. Like i said before, it is brand new and i expect it to sound like it.

3 weeks old = under full warranty, unless the problem is caused by neglect or abuse.
