Default Engine Swap

My 1988 Ford F150 has the 300 Strait Six and I got a great deal on a good running 5.0 302 and I was just wanting to make sure the engine would match up to my trucks MAZDA 5 Speed transmission. Im Rebuilding the V8 and then swaping the engine. Can it be done?

it can be done... that is not the problem.. just not exactly sure the 5 speed will hold the torque and hp of the 302. I know the 300 six was a torque motor but not sure about its hp compared to a 302. but there are ways around that also...

The M5OD was used behind the 302 also, and I'm pretty sure they are built with the same parts. There shouldn't be any difference between the internals of an I6 or V8 tranny. Now the '92-'96 M5OD is stronger than the '88-'91 M5OD but the newer ones don't have the provision for the speedometer. I'm told that you can use the tailshaft housing and speedometer gears from the older one to hook up the speedometer.

Your main problem is going to be engine wiring. You need to swap the engine harness and computer for the 5.0 to keep the fuel injection.

Default Thanks Guys

I am not sure if I will be purforming this swap as of right now I do not have the $350 the guy wants for the engine because he does not just want to sell the engine he wants me to take the entire car. and I dont really need a Lincon Town car in my yard, But if anyone here has an Engine and comuter/wire harness that they will sell for cheep as long as it is in decent running potential around the Connecticut area I am willing to purchase Thank You.

If $350 is the entire price go for it, you can find someone who will haul it away for free just to get the salvage money.
