Default Engine rev's are high at startup

I have another question, Around 175K I took off the throttle body and map sensor and cleaned them both. I used the correct cleaner, and a new gasket on the throttle body. Now when I start it, the engine goes to 1500-1600 rpm before settling down to idle 600rpm. Before i cleaned it would go up to 900 rpm. My question is it can't be good for cold starts, did I do something incorrectly? I thought it was pretty easy. I used CRC Mass air flow sensor cleaner.....

Any Ideas?

Craig

Also, knowing the year and what engine you have might help.

IRT your ticking problem, re-torque your spark plugs. also, my truck gets up to 1200-1500rpm on startup and all is well

Ok, It just seems high when it sits all night and go out in the morning and it does that...I have had the spark plugs back out and thats not the ticking issue....

I have a 2004 FX4 SuperCrew with the 5.4, and it appears I'm idling around 700, which I had originally thought was low for the vehicle. The post about factory idle being at 550, that too seems really low to me. Is anyone able to reference any documents from Ford that can help to clarify this for me? I've been having a bit of trouble locating this and other information.

1500 RPM is good for a cold startup. That rpm gets the oil pressure up and slings oil from the connecting rods to the cylinder walls. I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

This was a cold startup this morning (about 50 degrees outside). I've had the truck for a week and a half and just noticed how low it's idling. Oil was changed a week ago with full synthetic, didn't notice anything out of the ordinary but have plans to change plugs/coils/etc, have a cold air intake coming, manifold was replaced with shorty headers. I haven't seen any codes or anything, I just want this thing to last a while since I'm getting rid of my gas sipping 15 Focus..
