I'm pretty sure it would fit in there physically. Not sure about what mods would have to be made. Also, not sure the rest of the drivetrain would hold up with that level of torque, power, and weight. Perhaps consider a performance-enhanced 351, or perhaps a 400 if you can find it.

2wd or 4wd? What will you be doing with it? A nice roller 302 with the right cam/fuel delivery combo and exhaust might be all that you need. Now if it's torque you need....that's big block territory.....that's out of my realm of knowledge.

You would be better off installing one of the small blocks that where available
in 1989. Yes you could put a 460 in it but you would have to upgrade the suspension, brakes, transmission, etc. You would end up spending as much money doing a proper job as it would to get a nice 302, or 351 crate engine.

Default engine series

i might be wrong but i believe it all depends on the series of engine. 300 289 302 351w 460 there all fe series blocks so they all fit most of the same trans but keep in mind if it is a manual then you might have diffrent clutch ***. the other series of block is the e series 352 390 360 351c wait i do believe the the 351c will fight the fe series. check on this i do beleve this is right. but if not let me know.

The 289-351w are Windsor blocks. They will all bolt up to the same transmission. The 390 is an FE block. The 351c bolts to the big block bell housings like the 460 and 429. A 302 will near bolt right into the chassis and bolt up to the transmission of a 300 i6.

how much power are you wanting? you could get alot of power out of a 351w w/o adding the extra weight, and pains of fitting it in.
