DPFE Sensor
Got a 2000 F150 5.4L
My engine light turned on after a long road trip last week end. No difference in the engine what so ever. the dealer told me it's a DPFE sensor and want to charge me $300 plus to change it.
I looked it up my self (googled it) and I only see one DPFE sensor in this truck or am I missing a second one that cost more. is $300 or more okay to do this? I can see one on top of the engine and looks like a couple of screws or bolts and a wire that plugs in. is it safe for me to do it on my own without taking it to the dealer? will the light come off automaticaly after replaced if in deed it is that sensor?

The 300 for the sensor install alone is too much but I would guess diagnostics is included in the charge so that makes it a little high. You can do the job yourself but I would buy the sensor from the dealer and it will look different. The new upgraded version will be black and support itself on top of the two hoses. If you don't have a scanner to clear the code just disconnect your battery for a few minutes.

DPFE sensor
dealer already charged me $75 for diagnostic, the $300 is for part and installation. but I now got it at Autozone $56.00 (maybe not the best)and did it in 25 minutes and unpluged the battery..the light came right off.. thanks, you guys saved me tons of money.

Easy Peazy no tools required for mine.
I am a novice and I can replace one in about 30 seconds. On my 4.6l V8 I pull the electrical connector off, lift the unit straight up and off., push the new on on and reinstall the electrical connector. I paid $29.99 for mine at autozone. Easier to replace the DPFE than the air filter.
