Default down shifting - skipping 2nd gear

I've got a 2012 Lariat ecoboost and I've been noticing that when it's down shifting it never uses 2nd gear. It will go from 3rd straight to 1st on the display.
It makes coming to a smooth stop difficult as it's down shifting 2 gears instead of 1.
Is this something they all do?

Regards,

This is something they all do. I've seen this discussed before. Working as designed.

Alright, thanks BCMIF150.
I've only ever drove a manual before this truck, so it seems weird.

Yes, there is something you can do. Order a flash programmer and custom calibrations and specify that you want 3>2>1> instead of 3>1.

Otherwise, unless Ford issues an update, yer gonna have to live with it - and all the other suboptimal behaviour that defines the factory calibration.

My recommendation and shameless, gratuitous plug fer a stellar tuning vendor: http://www.morepowertuning.com/ecoboost-x4

A good read: http://www.morepowertuning.com/ecoboost-f150

good luck!

Thanks for the tips.
Without having read all that...does it void my warranty?

^ it might.
I dont see how the 3-1 downshift prevents a smooth stop though, as the truck doesn't shift to 1 until you're stopped. I have never felt any jerking / "unsmoothness" from that. And I used to do the same thing with my manual anyway
