disconnecting transmission coolant at radiator?
So is this more for emissions purposes? It would seem to me that radiator is always hot from engine coolant thus always keeping transmission fluid up in temps. Cant we just route it without it entering radiator and just re connect it back through trans cooler only?

I've ran a separate transmission cooler on all the TH350 transmissions I had in my old Chevy's. Never thought about it with the Fords. I always have a good mix of coolant to keep it from getting too hot. I don't really see a problem with going to a stand alone cooler for the transmission other than your radiator has internal lines for it.

Even if coolant is at temp that is still extra heat being transferred too trans oil since it is all in one component. Trans oil is always on high 190 which is around coolant levels. If it was disconnected at radiator trans fluid would be cooled just with trans cooler with the air flow at the front of truck Only. Idk if my logic makes sense or I'm over thinking this . -_-

The only thing you'd have to worry about (maybe, maybe not) are the ambient temperatures with a dedicated cooler. The heat from the radiator could help in warming your transmission up and vice versa. Also the cold air running across the cooler could make the pressure spike in the transmission lines. I've never had a problem in Kansas, but it's different than up north.
What you could do is take the return line and run it into a separate cooler then back to your transmission. This would essentially be the best of both worlds.

I used one from a 7.3/6.8 super duty before I installed it my trans temp gauge was getting to 210° occasionally higher almost every time I drive it any long distance now the highest it's been is 180° this pic shows the difference between my stock trans cooler and the sd one
And this is it installed behind my grill
I do have a write up on how I did it but it's for 97-03 f150s Idk what year you have but it might be worth reading just to get some info on it
