Diesel repower for f150
Has anybody ever had any success replacing the 5.4 l with any kind of diesel motor? Mine is a 2003 fx4 .. motor is still good.. except for the gas mileage.. I know back in the late 80's there was guy out in El Paso Tx that would take a brand new chevy truck and but a mercedes diesel engine it.. Alot of people bought them..
Just wondering...
I recently saw a 1995 toyota 4 runner with a repower diesel motor.. so Im sure it could be done on a F150

I would think you would have to worry about the extra weight of the diesel motor. I dont know that the front end and the engine supports are made strong enough to hold a heavy cast iron block. The gas powered engines are alot lighter. Then you have to wonder if the transmission would hook up right. You wouldnt be just replacing the engine block. You would have to replace all electronics and the computer. I also think it will be more money than you think when you look at all things that would have to be changed and modified.
