Hi Mitch,

I see where your coming from now. But, bad cell or not, on a young vehicle, IF the engine is cranking at a descent speed, it should start. The bad cell in your battery wouldnt even engage the solenoid into the starter. The reason why you were able to start it after a quick shut down was because it had a fresh charge from the alternator. It couldnt maintain the charge over night, and thats why you couldnt start it in the morning. He is not having that problem because he can manually start it, off the battery.

I doubt that the amp light will drain the battery overnight, and less likely to drain it in two hours.

I also doubt that it is a cracked distributor crack for his truck does not have one.

hi i just joined this site
main reason: my 2002 f150 5.4 is having trouble starting
lately with the temps 30 and below my truck has been taking 3to4 tries until it starts up i dont have auto start. after sitting overnight and i try to start it it cranks over(fast) but it isnt starting like it used to. usually the 2nd& 3rd try it will sputter then stall but then the 4th try it will start. after this it's usually good for the rest of the day. i put in new bosch platnums about 6or7 months ago i tried dry gas w/water remover that didnt seem to improve anything. i dont see any gas leaking . but it seems like the fuel system is loosing prime??
also i have a brand new battery. like i said the engine cranks over fast but just doesnt startup like it should. any good suggestions? any body else have these problems besides 06f150lariat and myself ? thanks!

On a morning when you think it is likely to do this, turn the key so all power comes on and let it sit for a couple of seconds before trying to start it. This will allow the fuel pump to prime the lines. If this resolves your issue, I would say it is probably a fuel pump going bad. But that is just suggestion. There could be many of other problems that could cause this. When trying to help people trouble shoot on these forums I always go for the most common explanation, however, this may not always fix it.
