Code P1537 intake manifold rail runner open 1998 xl 4.2 4x4 auto. is this a death ?
no mil. happened after normal trip to market. also had misfire, but it cleared. thank you.

It's not a death but it can present issues. What it's telling you is that the intake runners are stuck in the open or long position. The runners are variable in length. Rather than address the problem directly and since you had a miss, I'd be more inclined to look for a vacuum leak which doesn't allow the runners to actuate correctly by not being able to build enough vacuum. Also, if you haven't cleaned the throttle body in a while it can also set a P1537. When cleaning, specifically clean the port at the runners. DO NOT clean the TB while on the engine- remove it. You probably are running lean at an idle as well and may develop a miss.
