This is what my plan was, thus why i had questions:my f150 was a old service truck (great condt.) and i got it though a client i train, long story short it was a great deal that left me with some money to do some cool stuff when i got it (head lights, tail lights, ground effects) but i keep in the back of my head that i have a lot of miles so i dont want to do anything to the motor really... so what will i replace it with? anything cool out there i thought to myself, maybe a cobra motor, kids wrap those around trees and poles all the time (bless their souls) but i can prob get a motor for a good price, but i wondered "do they fit?" (sorry i didnt wikki first) and then i thought maybe if my old trans goes out lol what maybe i do with that?! 5, 6 speed? always wish a lightning had one, thats what kept me from buying one! but hey "was it even possible?" is the length ok, and to save time thought id go to a ford forum and see if i could find some cool guys with some cool answers, hope that helps make me seem less of a target for bs for you
hey ryan, glad of you to come around, i hope to much rice isnt floating around in your brain and you can come down to earth...well that would of been a pretty good post for a first one imo. now, to help you out....you have the 4.6 and if you go over to corral.net and do a quick search then you will find 4.6 4v swaps and head swaps, basically what your trying to do, as well as a plethora of transmission swaps. bassically, if you are fabrication/mechanically friendly, then you should have little to no problem playing with mod motors. your best bet is to find a pi 4v motor if your looking for pep, or get a 2v 5.4 and do a 4v swap on that if you want to get nice and *****-ie.

the 4r70 you have now is a proven performer and a quality unit can be built to handle power, or upgrade to a r100, or go manual. if you haven't done a manual swap they can get a little complicated but nothing you cant figure out.

hope you dont think i am to big of a dick, however, i am pretty knowledgeable about this motor and these trucks and when you start off as a immature member then i will treat as such.

hatchet buried.

For sure. IIRC, I think he said the GT500 engine (5.4L 4V) bolts up to the 4R70's with no problem, but the biggest issue he was going to face was getting it tuned to work with the truck's PCM (Troyer or somebody). I think I read he was going to keep it rather than switch out for the GT500 PCM so he could still have 4x4. So things are possible if you have deep enough pockets!

FYI for blackbetty & others: No, he didn't have to kill a GT500 to do this.

lol i dont think you the big a hole around here! i thought you came off a little strong and keep a leash on that lol but i got what i wanted to know witha little patience! As far as the gt500 thing goes i do think you can do a LOT with deep pockets! but if they are deep enough you can slap a f150 bed on a ferrari and call it a mod LOL and speaking of expensive things to do QUESTION!

if i do a manual install, will it be cheaper to go with a manual off a f-150 to the cobra motor? or will it not do the motor any justice? and is the adjustment to fit and cut into place a mustang 5/6 speed trans that much more difficult? cause i want to have a good idea as to where to center my plans on the project, thx

on the 04-08s i know that the v6 tranny wont hold the power of a 5.4 so they shouldnt hold a 4.6 4v either. you could use the existing shifter linkage and such, and you have the hole pre cut for you. however your best bet is use a t-5 or higher, my recommendation is a t-56 if your trying to go manual but id recommend keeping the 4r70 you have now or even upgrading to the 4r100....worked for lightings and mach ones!
