Chain like sound on exceleration
Hey eveyrone, hope someone can help...and yes I searched it.
I've noticed that when I'm in 3rd gear doing around 30kmh when I lightly hit the gas pedal I can hear what sounds like a chain knocking then the truck picks up speed. It almost sounds like a chain on a bike when its loose.
Other than that I have no issues, no knocking or ticking, pinging nothing.
Any thoughts??

2004 f150 chain sound on start up.
I bought a 2004 f150 with 120k miles and I noticed on start up that it sounded like I had a bunch of valve train clatter until the oil pressure stabilized ,well tearing it down wasn't an option at the time especially because it ran very good other than the noise at start up. Eventually I was at a shop and the guy there (an older guy) had mentioned something about an oil filter and I was like what the hell does the oil filter have to do with the noise, well esp since I was running a very expensive Bosch filter for this truck and Mobil 1 full synthetic oil and have since I bought the truck ,well he told me I needed to just put a Motorcraft ford oil filter on they have a one way check valve inside that keeps the oil on the top end so when you start up there's oil available for the timing, chain tensioners. Made sense so I tried the 5 dollar filter vs the 15 dollar filter and sure enough it quieted the noise considerably but not completely. At 170k miles I went to changing spark plugs and they were originals and I had done like every other engine I have worked on in the past and let it cool down as not to burn myself or what not and of corse broke every one on the driverside, so I got an extraction kit from Auto zone ( Never do this) well I broke the tap off in the head so now I've got to pull the head. Well @$%¥₩?& never seen an engine that everything on the motor was integrated into the timing chain cover. If you're not a seasoned mechanic don't attempt to build a 5.4 as a first engine. There's better choices. I am however seasoned on just about evert hinges aircraft diesels and several others and I still had issues one was the timing chain guide on the passenger side was in the oil pan that contributed to the noise issue. So I replaced that I actually reused the head gaskets both sides I did replace the intake gaskets. I pulled a little to hard on the wiring harness and broke the IMRC wire clip that was another issue so I had to fasten the main harness to the firewall to keep it out of the way and I elected to leave off the noise damper that goes around the intake , I really hadn't noticed any noise difference there. Currently there's an ABS light on and I'm getting a p0216 code which is Tac throttle position code so I've changed out the whole throttle body still getting the same code changed out the tss sensor changed out one wheel speed sensor up front now I'm getting a pass when I scan it but once I break 40 mph the check engine light comes on and the truck goes into safe mode until it's shut down.

Chain like noise.
I have an 04 4x4 with A 5.4 besides the timing chain guide issue I explained in the other post, there was another noise I experienced for awhile but it went away lol ( probably not good.) Anyway what I come to believe that was is a small noise reduction clip that goes in the automatic transmission. I was told it was in the torque converter but I don't believe that even though the sound was coming from the Trans area. Try this when I drove next to a guard rail or building roll down the passenger side window it will eco louder it might help you determine where it's coming from. I watched a couple of assembly videos on rebuilding this transylvania and the guy knew his stuff he explained about the button or clip. That might be what your looking for

End result.
So, I finally spent the 91$ and replace the rear wheel speed sensor. And the ABS light went out, and the Check engine light went out, and everything is as it should be. Quiet as a mouse no rattles chain slap ticks clicks knocks othing just Trition.

More engine noise.
Anytime you put an engine to work ( like pulling a trailer full of dirt , horses ,scrap metal, whatever the case) all the componets in the engine take more stress, generate more heat, burn more fuel and oil. Ever seen what a bicycle chain does when it's pretty lose? What about when it started up the hill and now there's two more people on the bike
Now, there's really a bunch of slack at the bottom. With your guide on that side being gone and the tensioner gasket probably being gone , not being able to hold oil pressure up to keep the chain tight'would make a lot of sense.
