Default Can someone explain the differences in the 5.4 engines??

So i have a 2000 F150 4X4 Lariat that I bought and the motor needs to be replaced. I found a engine that is from an 03-04 F150 and i talked to the guy about it and he said it would not work in my 00 model. Can someone explain the differences in these engines and what year models I should be looking for to replace my engine with?

the biggest differences would be the cam phasers & they went from 2 valves to 3.

if you want to keep the wiring & the electronics the same, you'll have to find another '00 engine.

Another pretty big difference is the switch to the PI heads on the 99 model year trucks. It was a 35hp gain IIRC.

Good look on the wiki link though.
