cams...
i'm relatively stupid when it comes to anything internally of an engine....
I have no idea what a cam is, but i do know that when someone has a "cammed" 5.4 it sounds rediculously sweet.
can someone explain this to me or know of a good website that can make me understand this and how to make mine do that?
thanks, and try not to be to harsh on me being naive lol

Well, it isn't cheap that much I can tell you. I know on my 3V 4.6 V8 on the Stang I am looking at about $500 to get them installed. And cams themselves are $640 for the Comp Cams Thumpr Stage 2 plus for my engine, I need a set of phase limiters.
So gonna be about $1300 all said and done. I've been researching cams for quite some time as that my next performance mod to the Stang and I plan on doing that first thing in spring...
For the idle, you want something that has high lift and duration, it's the engine "overlap" that gives that mean *** idle lopey sound....
Your setup might be cheaper as I do not know the new model F-150's nearly like I know Mustangs or my older F-150, but be worth checking around for.
And due to the knowledge, tools, and exactness of doing a cam install, I personally am going to get them professional installed rather then attempting to do it myself and messing something up on the internals of the engine.

Bear in mind however if you get the super lopey came style, they add primarily power to high end with some good gains to mid range power curve.
But you usually lose out on some off the line power. I antipated this and installed 4:10 gears as I knew eventually I would want these cams. Now the car goes like donkey kong!
I dont think it would hurt mpg however that's not something I've researched relavant to the cams as I stopped even looking at the mpg in my cars as every time I did, I just got depressed. lol

Lol it's extremely depressing, I had both the ampg and impg gauges on display oft edge and took them off so I didn't have to keep looking at the 11's and 12's lol
And with the 3.73's I don't think I'm hurtin to bad off the line, mostly it's te long gears and the 3500-5000 rpm shifts 2-4th thatre killin me, an extra boost there would make my day
