I got the bad news this AM that I have almost no oil pressure at the top end of my 07 5.4 3v FX4. I've been dealing with bad dieseling at idle and had the Ford garage do a complete diagnostic. They did some sort of manual oil pressure test and said there is very little to the cam on the left bank. The cam phasers are apparently shot. I had a 2nd independent mechanic check it out this afternoon and he agrees.
I have gone thru the spark plug fiasco with this engine that cost me over 1K and now this. I can't dump the truck on the market without getting hosed so putting a remanufactured long block seems to be everyone's solution. A buddy of mine recommended a shop a few miles away that has a lot of experience in swapping out these engines. They highly recommended the Jasper 5.4 with the high-volume oil pump. Supposedly Jasper puts their engines on a dyno and they show an increase in HP and torque over stock. It carries a 3 year 100K miles warranty. It's also about 2K less than a similar Ford deal installed that carries a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty.
Anybody have any experience with the Jasper engine? Good or bad? My truck is still running and locally dependable. I just have to get something done in the next couple of months
Are you also getting a quote to just replace the phasers, lash adjusters, cam, and timing chain. If it's just the phasers issues, that can be worked with and not needing a new block. Ford nor Jasper has really "fixed" the cam phaser issue. There are 09 and 10 5.4L that are still having the same issues. The oil pump isn't the main concern, it's the design of the phaser that's the bigger issue. I don't have any experience with a Jasper 3V so I can't comment on reliability, but I would say it's a box of chocolates either way.
we get all our motors from jasper engine company at work when we end up replacing motors in NON GM vehicles... matter of fact i had an explorer come in that hung a valve and broke the piston in a million pieces...we replaced it with a jasper motor and its came back a few times with oil leaks from like the front crank seal, valve cover gaskets, and very minor other issues... over all its been a good runnin engine just be prepared to have minor things come up.
I have a Jasper engine in MY 05' F-150 and I'm perfectly happy. My old one crapped out after 187,750 miles, and we buy a lot of rebuilt motors, trannys, rear ends from Jasper. You won't be disappointed, and for just under $4,000 it's not a bad deal either.
My phasers were bad, it was tired, and it was the typical 5.4 that just happened to last a little longer than expected. Since I got the jasper one I've put ~10K on it and no problems at all. Just keep your intake manifold, exhaust manifolds and other misc little parts - the new motor comes with everything new, even belt and filters.

The cam phasers were pooched on my '04 Lariat at 100K and it cost me $2600 to fix at Ford. My '10 Lariat, I think, has the same problem at 54K. I can't believe Ford has not dealt with the issue.
My buddy has a 09 5.4 enging he is selling out of a wrecked truck. Motor can still be seen running before being pulled out. Truck had 20,000 miles on it. Let me know if you are intrested in it. Thanks
