i hooked it up to the side of the intake where it goes i guess to the 4wd
i hooked it up before i put coolant in it and when i did it kind of stalled but stayed running and started the knocking
could it be a bent valve or wrist pin maybe
by cam followers do you mean rocker arms

no you need a rebuild, starting at $1500 depending on which parts you decide to use. Might as well go with good quality if you want it to last...or get another motor

I got "schooled" with the wife's buick...
pull the motor & fix it correctly. check with the diff stores, but advance auto had the best price on the seals / gaskets. fel pro has several kits available. make sure u pick the ones that won't overlap so you don't wind up with extras. never buy a recon crank & consider replacing the connecting rods, or have the ones u have tested to make sure they won't fail 450mi into a break in.
I also learned my lesson to stay away from GM!!! The "oh I just LOVE this car..." crap doesn't happen anymore when we are shopping ;-)
