92 ford f150 300 inline 6 rough idle HELP!
Well i am trying to help my father fix his truck he has a 92 f150 2wd with a 300 inline 6. It has irratic idle when it is first started and only runs on 5 cylinders i am stumped to what the problem is. I was thinking it could possibly be a intake manifold gasket or possibly a map sensor?. It will run as long as you feather the gas pedal but as soon as you let off it shuts off. Maybe its because this is my first experience with a inline 6cyl ford fuel injected engine. But i assume this to be the worst ford engine ever produced. Can not figure out the issue for the life of me the truck only has 66 thousand original miles on it and if i can't figure it out its going to the scrapyard. I always owned fords and never had this many problems please help.

The erratic idle could be something as simple as a broken/loose vacuum line. I had a '93 Mustang that had plastic vacuum lines - they would crack and break over time, and the engine would run like crap.
See if you can get the engine running and listen for a loud hiss.

I will have to try that but would a vaccum leak cause a dead cylinder?. At this point it could be a few different things wrong. And after having this many problems with this truck i don't personally think i will ever buy a ford with a inline 6 cylinder in it this one is really starting to tick me off lol.

The only good inline six motor ford made was the 300 six with one barrel carb on it. Those motors will run forever. Check the spark plug if it just soaked in gas the plug wire could be shot . Thats one way to have the motor not run on all cylinders
