Default 87 302 EFI to Carb. Conversion

Ive been having a lot of problems with the efi on my truck recently. Im tired of fooling around with all the sensors and harnesses and all the other crap thats with it. I have been looking around to find answers a few questions I have about this conversion. First off, what parts are needed. I know intake, carb., fuel pressure reg. I already have a msd dist. and 6al box on it. What other parts will I need? Also, the truck has a AOD trans. in it, when I pull the computer out of the truck with this affect that trans. at all? Thanks for the help fellas.

Leave the computer in to run the trans if it needs it, but I dont think it does being an 87 with the AOD.

You'll need to change your fuel pump to one that isn't high pressure, bolt the carb and manifold on and set fuel pressure to 5-5.5psi and your good to go!

Keep the pump and run excess fuel thru the return line. Worked for me.

Is this a daily driven vehicle? If so, I'd think long and hard before doing it.

You will lose fuel economy (not that it gets great mileage to begin with) and it isn't going to be a simple plug and play operation. You do mention you've got a MSD distributor, but if it is an EFI one, it won't work with the conversion unless it has a provision for a mechanical and vacuum advance or plan on getting an add on ignition computer for the MSD. In any event, it is going to mean having to set a timing curve, jet the carb properly (granted, there's plenty of data out there) and fiddle with it until it finally runs right. Chances are you can probably fix whatever relatively minor (EEC-IV is stupid simple to work on with the right tools) problem you're having for less money and trouble than trying to convert it to a carb, and have a better running vehicle to boot.

Im thinking of doing this same conversion. I wanna keep the fuel pumpsand retain the use of the dual tanks . I wanna upgrade to a 351 windsor and go with the edelbrock performer cam, lifters, intake, carb add a mallory mechanical advance breakerless distributor. Is there any links on hooking up the fuel pressure regulator and feed back line thats on the truck Kaboom? as for keepng the EFI have fun with that. It will not run as well as the above combo this i know .
