i know this f150 forum but figured id thorw this question out there. Brother has a 1989 f250 with 5.8 with no ***** at all...were talking going up slight grade and loosing rpm, taking like 5 mins to get up to 60mph, and if you like stomp it to the ground it like wants to die...and the headers get like glowing red after 30min of running...i told him he needs to check his exhaust valves sounds like there not closing in time... wanted to see if any1 had any other ideas?? hes put all new igniton system on it, and the timeing is right.

Yes, sounds like possible clogged cats.

And F250s and F350s are welcome here, practically the same truck.

What is the history of the truck. Cats do get plugged up (sounds like yours), but that is the reaction of something wrong.

well he put a new complete exhaust on the truck last year from the headers back i dont think it be pluged all ready but worth to check out. it idles fairly decent, altho when your in neutral you put it to the floor it revs decent till like 3500 and just like sits there, now put it in gear and do it doesnt make it to 3500 just wants to die. I found out today that the engine is from 1990 f250.

ok we pulled it into the garage today finally had some time, when to check codes are non....i belive its due to the fact that the person before my brother owned it didnt hook alot of that up. We Droped the cat today didnt help much does same thing runs for about 10 mins and just looses power and spits and spats. Checking the compression now so far got 134,140,140,130 on the driver side of the engine on 3 cranks, and 130,134,140,140 on pass side.
