5.4 swap for 2000 Exp. What years fit?
Hi All,
Looking for 5.4 that will swap into a 2000 Expedition w/o a lot of long block, electrical issues;
Just blew head gasket in #4 cylinder in my 2000 5.4 Expedition. 145,000 miles. My mechanic quoted; Crate motor swap was at $6000, and $3800 to repair existing engine. The vehicle is only is worth about $6000.
I'm thinking of doing the repair myself as I'd like to keep the vehicle as my (seldom used) tow vehicle for the family's 25' travel trailer as it's set up with factory tow package and worked well. I've read that doing the heads on this engine gets involved with cam timing chain issues, etc.
Was thinking of simply buying a running, but wrecked vehicle and just swap engine and be done.
What year 5.4 will fit the 2000 Expedition without having to do a lot of "long block" changes to exhaust manifolds, accessory brackets, electronics, etc. Obviously a 2000 Expedition would be ideal, but what other years Expedition. F 150, Lincoln, etc. would interchange w/o a ton of headaches?
Thanks, Brian

OVERTHINKER
The only odd thing you will run into on the accessories is on the pulleys, some are 8 groove and others are 6. No big deal to swap, just make sure you use a matching set.
