Well my mechanic is basically one of our family members. Haha. The shop owners one those quote unquote uncles and in a small town they're honest people. He wouldn't screw us over I promise you that. He even told me about flushing it before I even mentioned it but he just doesn't want anything to sit in the bottom of the pan and make its way to my pump, cause then im screwed. He leaves all of the decisions up to me and it being a new truck to me, I want any and all work done that will prevent more work later.

Well I got very lucky that he even touched it for me. They're backed up 2 weeks so I didn't have an appointment (I made one for the basic tune up and all the other stuff) until next Wednesday. But as soon as it started to blow smoke I brought it in and he said he'd try to take a look at it if he got some down time and see if it would be a quick fix (I thought maybe oxygen sensor, running rich, at first). So I was lucky he even popped the hood that day.

ive never seen a sensor so far out of voltage that the vehicle blew carbon.

get the seafoam bottle, follow the directions, and see what happens.

i didnt get angry at you..its your $700...when my car was running a bit rough...I dumped a can of seafoam and called it a day. I dont know about blaim, but blame you I dont. I just choose not to pay $65/labor hour to do something myself. If you dont get your hands dirty, you will never get the hands on experience.

I love to do my work on my own. But when I saw that thick cloud of smoke behind me I thought I was in my Powerstroke for a second. When it comes to internal stuff I just like to leave it to someone I trust, and on something that's so important to me...well I'm no certified mechanic.

Been twisting wrenches for over 45 years. Am happy to say, I'm a better mechanic than a politician. Accept my appology, I get agravated with people who don't take care of their stuff. You are a victim not the cause. In the years that I worked heavy line at the dealerships changing engines and doing valve jobs taught me alot. Sludge was everywhere. Was it the cause of the failures? Don't know, probably some but certainly not all. See alot of posts about Seafoam through the brake booster line. Don't have a clue as to how this stuff works or what is does to any part of the engine except the intake and combustion chamber. What about the oil pressure and oil return passages. This is where the sludge is, not in the intake. Unfortunately, pulling the valve covers and spit shining that area does not do anything to the oil pump pick up screen. Yes, pull a valve cover to see the extent of sludge. Keep in mind, those little dried flakes you seen in the oil fill tube are down there in that pick up screen also. If its cost effective, you might consider getting a rebuilt engine or even overhauling this one.
