5.0 mustang swap in a 97 f150
ok i would like for someone to tell me how hard it would be 2 put a 5.0 in my f150 the truck is a 97 4.2L 2 wheel drive. The v6 just isn't enough power. So if i don't figure out something to make it faster then i am gonna have to sell it cause its driving me nuts. Anyways someone please help me out thanks. Any tips are appreciated.

Why put in the 5.0? Why not just swap in a 5.4 Triton?
More displacement, more power, more getup and hold onto you @R$E. Plus any mounts you may need to get can be easily salvaged from another F150. No custom fabrication needed for exhaust, intakes, etc.
Depending on the money and skill you stick into it, you can kick the living $h1+ out of a 5.0 with relative ease. As the saying goes, There is no replacement for displacement.

You will have to do ALOT of changes to install a v-8. Wiring harness, transmission, possibly driveshaft length. Not to mention the mounts, cooling system acc brackets etc etc. If it were me unless you have a doner truck sitting right next to yours for the swap over I would build and supercharge the v-6. Imagine the look on ppls faces when you spank them in a full sized truck with a v-6. There are ALOT of mods for the 4.2. Alot of v-6 'Stang ppl's first big mod is to install a 4.2 in the stang. Since its the same block as the 3.8.

I bow to the expert (NGM) on the details on swapping engines....I am no mechanic.
I was just voicing that if you are going to put in a bigger motor. Why make it hard on yourself?
Also for the money you are going to put into swapping an engine (especially given the details supplied by NGM), you may be able to find a truck with the engine you want in it.
Old Truck Sold + Engine Swap Cost = Newer truck with the motor you want + (and maybe extra cash left over for more mods)

My name is Mike. I am new to the site. I like the idea of the mod on the 4.2L. I have a 1999 and it needs an engine. I don't have any investment in the truck since I have owned it for 10 years. Where can I find a good 4.2 to begin my repair? And where can I find advice on the mods? Thanks for any help.
