Default 5.4?

i have a 2005 f150 stx with a 4.6l in it and i was thinking about putting in a 5.4l but i here from some people that have a 2005 5.4l has some problems when they change out the spark plugs for the first time that there engine never runs the same after that... i was wondering if this is true and stay away from those motors and put some parts in the 4.6l or if i should get it and hopefully not worry about any problems.... thanks

go with a 08+ 5.4 they have a one piece sparkplug. I dont see why it wouldnt run right unless they did not put motor craft plugs back in. I heard if you dont use motorcraft sparkplugs the engine will not run right. 5.4 is a great engine so dont worry.

Too pricey and time consuming to do an engine swap. You will need a complete donor vehicle for the ECU, Harnesses, and whatever else come up. I recommend you just get a truck with a 5.4 already in it. Like I said it can be done but it will cost time and money. The 5.4 is a great engine and they make a 1 piece spark plug that you can buy and it runs just great. I know I did it lol. Good Luck

x2... the 5.4s probably have more power in the '05s enough to make it worth while to buy them for the power, but were so prone to issues, i advised a friend of mine then to stay away from the 5.4... the 07 & the 08 models I test drove were doggy. you'd be better to trade or sell for a newer one with the engine you want. the new 3v 4.6s run pretty hard. there isn't a lot of difference in power with the 5.4 & they get better mpg.

it's harder to sell something with an engine that's been swapped / replaced / messed with like that. most people don't want them or will pay less b/c they think it may be a problem.

yeah the thing is i cant afford another truck or trade in the truck but i have about 3 grand to go towards the truck that i got from a car accident i got into and i dont mind the couple days worth of work cause i have another car to use while im working on it.... yeah i dont know if i want to trade in my truck down the road or if i want to keep it till it dies... what i was going to do was put in a 5.4 and i was going to put some simple engine upgrades on it and i was going to put a long travel kit that i was going to build myself..... a friend of mine had a 06 f150 4.6 with a lot of engine upgrades done to it and i think he had a 7 inch lift on it and he was telling me that he couldnt pass himself on the freeway and i dont want to put a long travel kit on and not be able to have fun in it..... so i dont know if i should figure out a way to just build up the 4.6 to try and get it to be as fast or even faster when i put 35's and a 8" lift so thats my biggest consern that it will be super slow and i dont want to regret putting the 8" long travel kit in
