Default 5.0 5.3 swap.

Hey guys.
My truck is starting to show signs of her age.
1993 ford f150 5.0 with e40d trans over 250k.
She runs ok and does not smoke.
But the oil psi is around 15idl 35 2000rpms. When warm.

I want to buy a engine but I dont wanna do the stock 302. I will but dont want to.

Iv called a few places and found that most Machine shops want 200+ for just the block.

I called a local selvage yard and found out they want 150 for a complete engine (guaranteed to be good) - I have to pull it.

So Im thinking the salvage yard is my best bet.

How hard would it be to put a 351/5.8 into my truck???

If i understand what iv been told I will have to - Find a truck with a 5.8 and a e40d trans and then take the engine with the computer and wiring harness.

What years should I look more that wont force me to do alote of rewiring?
What kinda rewiring might i have to do?

(When i say rewire I mean splice wires into other wires) its fine if i just have to plug or connect this to that. (If that makes since)

One i have the engine my plains are-
Bored.
Hot tanked.
New cam bearing.

Painted.

Start building her.

Can some one tell me if im on the right track?

What will i need or need to do or replace?

How big of a deal is this?

Thanks.

To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

351 should be a fairly straightforward swap. As far as I am aware, they use the same engine sensors, all you should need to get is an engine (as complete as possible) and a computer. All the other wiring should be just about the same if you get another EFI engine from the same era.

if its the same year and same style of FI you dont need to do anything... just swap the engines...

if the 302 is Speed Density and so is the 351 then all you do is swap the engines...only other thing you'll need to do is swap the injector harness on 4 cylinders to match the change in firing order... unless your 302 has the same firing order then you do nothing but the swap.... the ECM will be fine. the 302 has more aggressive mapping

While the exhaust manifolds from a 302 will bolt up to the heads of a 351, you may need to lengthen the exhaust pipes to reach the manifolds. The 351 has a taller deck height than the 302, which means your manifolds or headers will be higher up in the engine compartment.
