4.6 Sluggish/ Thinking of changing gears, Ideas?
hi all, 03 f150 4.6 4x4 supercab. Maybe you have see my pervious thread about it being sluggish and not pulling great. I am thinking about changing the gears. Anyone have an idea on what i would be best to go with? Where I should get them at and maybe an idea on how much. Truck currently has 3:55 lim slip. Not looking for alot of speed. I would rather have the truck pull good. Thanks again,
Aaron

Id say first start with a good exhaust and intake... That should give you a little more oomph, but don't expect miracles with a 4.6 tied to a 4wd supercab that's alot of weight to lug around. If your not going to a larger tire you could switch out the gears to 4.10's. You will really feel the difference in stop and go driving but it's probably going to cost in excess of $1,000 bucks since you have 4wd and need to change the front gears out. Also using a power programmer will help free up some hp and you can now tune for 87 octane gas. For my 97 F150 4.6 the gear change made from 3.55's to 4.30's really woke up the truck on the street since I am running 33's.

crush a little car today
I went to 4.88 gears and still have the 31.6 stock size tires. I went from 12.7 down to 11.3mpg. I've done my own tune also that helps. Get a tuner and a custom tune to add some zip.
